Desert Park Equine Facility & Race Track, was once a jewel of the South Okanagan. With regular horse racing events, concerts, and festivals Desert Park was a well-known beacon that lit the way home for many horse enthusiasts.
Unfortunately with times changing. Horse racing events have slowed considerably, and with the events of the pandemic over the last 12 months, we haven’t seen many sporting events, concerts, or festivals anywhere in Canada, never mind here in Osoyoos.
However, even with Covid-19 running amok, Desert Park has experienced a lot of progress in the last 7 months.
Over the last 7 months in preparation for 2021 (set to be one of our biggest years in a very long time) we have completed many projects – with many more in the works – in order to spruce up the facility, make it more enjoyable for the horses, and provide a fantastic space for horse trainers from around Canada to call home – even if it’s only for a few short months.
Some of those projects include painting of the barns, new round pens, and puncture vine picking parties. As well as our latest little fundraiser where we collected and returned 4 truckloads of bottles, and cans to the recycling depot. Resulting in an extra $188 we’ll use at the track for new flower beds, flowers, and soil so we can keep Desert Park looking beautiful
We especially want to give a thank you out to Kim and Mike for helping haul and sort bottles at the Depot. Every little bit helps at Desert Park, as we continue to make everything look, work, and feel better out at the Park.
If you’re reading this and are thinking that you would like to get more involved with the Equine community here in Osoyoos, or the South Okanagan, consider becoming a member, and a volunteer at Desert Park Equine Facility and Race Track as we continue our mission to make Desert Park well known across Canada.
